10 Ways to Add Creativity into Your Life

Life can sometimes feel like a whirlwind, with our busy schedules leaving little room for creativity. But guess what? You don’t need a big budget or hours of free time to sprinkle a bit of creativity into your daily routine! A few simple tweaks to some of your daily routines mean you can easily add creativity into your life, and it’s a fantastic way to boost your mental health… So, let’s dive into 10 easy ways to nurture your creative spirit without adding stress to your already full plate!

1. Start a Creative Journal

As big fans of journaling, our number one tip would be to start a creative journal. It’s a game-changer. And don’t feel intimidated - there’s no wrong answer, or judgement here. It’s a space to keep track of your thoughts and express and creatively explore your thoughts. Put a twist on traditional journaling by adding doodles, sketches, or even collage elements. Jot down ideas, sketches, and quotes, cut and stick, and express your emotions using paints. Use recycled materials like old magazines or packaging to create vibrant visuals. This not only sparks creativity but also allows you to reflect on your day in a fun way.

2. Nature Walks with a Twist

Turn your lunchtime stroll into a scavenger hunt. I prioritise short walks outside into my day, otherwise, I go mad! I typically try to work for 50 minutes and then head outside for 10. A quick walk around the block, and the fresh air instantly gives me some energy. But you can step this up a notch. Look for interesting textures, colours, or shapes. Snap photos of what you find and create a mini-collage or mood board when you get home, or go old-school and stick things into your journal - Nature is a fantastic muse, and it’s easy to get inspired!

3. DIY Upcycling Projects

Transform something old into something new! We love a bit of upcycling; we can usually be found painting old pieces of furniture or repurposing them, to give them a new lease of life. But we’ve also recently started adding cute embroidery to damaged clothes, or painting jars for pots - upcycling allows you to flex your creative muscles while being kind to the planet. Plus, it’s a great way to practise mindfulness as you focus on the process. Check out Pinterest for loads of upcycling ideas.

4. Mindful Gardening

If you have a small space, try container gardening with herbs or flowers. The act of planting and caring for living things can be incredibly therapeutic. Plus, you get the bonus of fresh herbs for cooking or beautiful blooms for your home!

5. Crafting Community

Join a local crafting group or start one with friends! Whether you knit, paint, or create digital art, sharing your passions with others fosters creativity and connection. Plus, it’s a great way to unwind and meet like-minded individuals!

6. Digital Detox

Take a break from screens and engage in a creative offline activity. Another tip I’ve been trying out this year is keeping a smaller sketchbook in our bags, and instead of reaching for your phones during those moments of boredom, grab out the sketchbook and do a quick doodle - it can be anything, take inspiration from what you see around you.

7. Themed Dinner Parties

Channel your inner chef and host themed dinner nights with friends! Pick a theme, or a country, and ask everyone to bring a dish that fits the theme - think “Taco Tuesday with a Twist” or “Turkish Night.” Not only will you explore new cuisines, but the creativity in the kitchen will flow!

8. Take a Class

Ever wanted to try pottery, painting, or even dance? Check out local classes or online tutorials! Learning something new is a surefire way to get those creative juices flowing. Plus, you might discover a hidden talent!

9. Creative Challenges

Join a challenge like “Inktober” or “30 Days of Drawing.” These prompts will push you to create regularly, and it’s a fantastic way to connect with a community of fellow creatives. Plus, you’ll have a collection of art at the end!

10. Get Back Into Colouring

It’s a classic, and takes minimal effort - it’s something you can do at the end of the day, in your PJs, watching your favourite series. But it’s such a good activity for allowing you to ‘switch off’, and not only will you create something beautiful, but you’ll have released a bit of your inner child too.

Finding ways to inject creativity into our busy lives doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. These simple activities can be easily woven into your daily routine, offering a much-needed mental break and a boost to your wellbeing. So, go ahead and embrace your creative side—you might just find it’s the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of life!

Remember, it’s all about enjoying the process, not just the outcome. Happy creating! 🌟
