Crafting Your ‘WHY’
Last week we delivered what is becoming our favourite workshop: PURPOSE-FULL. During this session we worked with teams to uncover their WHY. It’s proven that discovering your purpose can bring a greater sense of meaning to your life - it’s that ‘thing’ that gets you up in the morning, and keeps you moving forwards. And then comes the fun part of the session: we bring it to life using creativity - and in this particular case, we used clay.
It’s fair to say that I get a few panicked looks when I set people off on this task, but eventually once they start rolling the clay, and thinking about the questions raised - what are your passions; what brings you joy - it’s really incredible what people can create. And it’s something unique every time.
We encourage people to make something that they might use at home - candle stick holders, small bowls, or something simple to hang in their office. Their purpose can be displayed through the item they create, such as sculpting a hand, as one lady participant did, to reflect her love of helping and caring for people. Or they could stamp or write words that remind them of their purpose. This small hint of their ‘why’ is all they need to act as a daily reminder and keep them motivated and on track.
These unique creations are so much fun to create - but it’s also the secret sauce to a happier and healthier you. People use affirmations every day, and these clay masterpieces can act as an affirmation too - forget cringe post-it notes on the mirror; this is actually something practical and beautiful that is your hidden nod to your purpose or affirmation.
So next time you’re thinking of creating some affirmations, why not get the craft box out - better still, clay! And get messy, get creative and craft your own unique affirmations, that will have so much more personal meaning.
